My story is all too common. I work hard and meet a fitness/weight loss goal only to blow it in a few months by enjoying everything I didn’t eat during my “diet” period. The pattern is getting old.
These blogs highight that pretty well:
In 2020, I’m going to try and be consistent. I’m not going to clean eat for a month or two; I’m going to effort 11 months of the year.
I’ve always enjoyed competing against myself. And although this doesn’t seem fun or easy, I need to prove to myself that I can do it.
After plenty planning (and second thoughts), here’s the plan:
Nutrition
January
- Whole 30
February – November
- Focus on whole foods, nothing processed or fried
- No dairy
- Limited sugar (fruits)
- Limited carbs (no bread or rice, potatoes ok)
- 1 weekly cheat meal w/ craft beer
- 2x/week low-carb alcohol (2 drinks max)
Fitness
Full year
- 5x/week: Morning runs of at least 2 miles
- 4 half marathons
- 5x/week: Weight training
- New PRs in key lifts
I usually gauge my progress by what shows up on the scale. In this case, it’s all about sticking to the plan. If I can be consistent, I have no doubt the results will be there — and perhaps I can craft a new lifestyle leading into 2021.
I saw a great quote the other day: “Be the kind of person that makes other people want to up their game.” I can’t do that if my game isn’t where it needs to be.
