Anyone else had enough of the drama in Dallas surrounding Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett? Since last Sunday’s game, speculation has been running wild. We’ve had two “firing scares” that appear to have been premature.
I’ve covered plenty of coaching hiring and firings and seen strong journalists get burned. My suggestion? At this point, wait for the press release or formal announcement. No one is going to remember who got it first this late in the game, but they’ll remember who got it wrong.

Looking to get into management or grow your career in 2020? This article on leadership lessons learned may be helpful. I wrote it a couple years ago when I marked 10 years as a news director.
Speaking of leaders, a big shout-out to Dax Dobbs of KXAN. Dax is our Austin station’s Director of Marketing. He and his team have done a fantastic job embracing the Digital First initiative. Their work has been highlighted multiple times in companywide webinars.
I enjoyed helping out with Lone Star NYE Live! this week. It’s always a pleasure to work with the talented crew at KXAS in Dallas. New Year’s Eve programming continues to be a strong performer on both television and digital. Nexstar Media Group was involved in the production of four shared NYE specials.
This is as cool as it gets. All of Nexstar’s stations participated in Second Street’s “Home for the Holidays” contest. The winner came from North Dakota. This family lost their home during a flood and had been renting ever since. The father is a U.S. military veteran. The winners are hopeful this check helps them get into their forever home. How awesome!
